Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Facility Operations Manager performs skilled, complex work in the repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and steam distribution equipment and energy management systems. The position is responsible for performing diagnostics, trouble shooting and repairs to commercial coolers, kitchen equipment, restaurant equipment, bar equipment and laundry equipment. The position is responsible for maintaining inventory control of all tools, equipment and parts for cost effective operations. The position must prepare material lists and cost estimates for replacement parts and equipment. The position is responsible for assuring safety standards are to be followed to meet the needs of the operation.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

 

  • Install HVAC ductwork including flexible tubing and sheet metal construction.
  • Conserves, installs and recycles CFC and HCFC refrigerants maintaining required EPA certification and documents.
  • Install and/or troubleshoot and repairs electrical/electronic connections and mechanical components of HVAC, refrigeration systems, boiler and chill water systems. Installs or troubleshoots and repairs HVAC system automation components (building automation system).
  • Install and/or troubleshoot and repairs commercial kitchen, bar, restaurant and laundry equipment.
  • Monitor temperature controls and makes operational adjustments on heating and air conditioning equipment to keep guests comfortable.
  • Maintain certification as required for operation of all company equipment and vehicles.
  • Create material lists to support work in progress, obtaining quotes and coordinating the order with their supervisor.
  • Take direction from department manager/supervisor in prioritizing projects to be completed, work coordination with other departments, and aesthetic standards.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all materials used in the normal course of performing the functions of the position.

  • Adhere to the company's standards ensuring daily work and special projects are completed in an efficient and professional manner, abiding by local, NFPA and building codes.
  • All other job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers and outside vendor/service providers.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant standing, walking, sitting, carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, use of hearing, near/midrange vision, depth perception, color/field of vision and bending. Working conditions include constant exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and vibration and frequent exposure to air quality. Potential hazards include constant exposure to moving mechanical parts and electric shock; frequent exposure to chemicals and computer use and occasional exposure to high exposed places, insecticides/pesticides and equipment use. Protective clothing needed to perform job include safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, N95 masks, knee pads and back brace and steel toed shoes/boots.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

 

Experience: Five years of HVAC Commercial Heating/Cooling experience required.

 

Certification/License: EPA Class I and II Certification or Universal Refrigeration Certification required. HVAC or Refrigeration Trade or technical school certification preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge and ability to use tools necessary in HVAC field. Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics and equipment manuals required. Must have basic computer skills. Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimal, and work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference. Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly. Must be able to work extended hours when needed. Must be flexible to work various shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to be on-call for emergencies. Native American preferred.
