Job Description:   
The Estimator will review construction plans and specifications and perform detailed takeoffs and by item counts of all materials required.  Based on take-off and communication with material suppliers and use of manufacturers’ pricing programs, the Estimator will prepare bids for release to mechanical contractors.  This role requires a technically-minded, process-oriented individual with attention to detail, good communication, organizational and computer literacy skills. 

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Maintain friendly, cooperative relations with customers, vendors, company personnel and management. 

  • Perform other tasks or assignments as delegated by the Senior Estimator. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to tactfully handle difficult situations. 

  • Anticipate problems and provide contingency plans and recommendations. 

  • Organize personal schedule to maximize productivity and time management. 

  • Follow all Company personnel policies and procedures. 

  • Assists in identifying new work to be pursued that is consistent with the Company’s marketing strategy. 

  • Cultivates new business through existing business relationships and former customers. 

  • Prepares accurate detailed take-offs by item counts of all materials required for projects assigned; generates RFI’s where appropriate. 

  • Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of assigned estimates to mechanical contractors based on take-off and communication with material suppliers and use of manufacturer’s pricing programs. 

  • Ensures that estimates are priced with an estimated gross profit consistent with the necessary profit objectives of the Company as communicated by Senior Management. 

  • Estimates the time and resources necessary to complete bids and communicates this information to the Senior Estimator so that the bid plan is as accurate as possible. 

  • Follows up on open bids/proposals in a timely manner; reviews results periodically with the Senior Estimator. 

  • Communicates with Sales Persons and Customers on a daily basis. 

Experience and Requirements:   
Education 

  • High school diploma  

  • 4 years work experience in similar field or College Degree preferred 

Experience 

  • Ability to read blueprints and project specifications to accomplish accurate take offs. 

  • Ability to prepare bid packages according to specifications. 

  • Computer skills, including work with various estimating programs, Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Bluebeam (digital take offs). 

  • Experience and knowledge of HVAC industry a plus. 

  • Previous technical experience or qualified training. 

  • Degree or 2 year technical certification preferred or equivalent experience.
