HVAC Controls Technician

Required Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: 2–5+ years working with HVAC systems, controls, or automation systems.
• Skills:
• Knowledge of DDC systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, Honeywell).
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with networking, BACnet, Modbus, or similar communication protocols.
• Certifications (often preferred):
• Must hold a VA HVAC license
• OSHA safety training
• HVAC or controls manufacturer training (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Some climbing and balancing.
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
• Generally, the job requires 15% sitting, 40% walking, and 45% standing.
• High noise levels are common with general maintenance.
• Must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours.
• Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This role requires work in non-office settings such as machinery rooms, electrical distribution centers, server rooms, and industrial locations.
• Work requires exposure to heat/cold, noise, dust, mist, and/or fumes.
• Required the ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Requires wearing personal protective equipment such, safety glasses, fall protection harness, protective-toe footwear, gloves, hard hat, and hearing protection.
• Work hazards include electrical shock, confined spaces, and noise hazards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) per contract.
• Must complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
• Must be proficient with the English Language per contract.
