HVAC Welder

The HVAC Welder is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding components used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This position requires expertise in working with various metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel, and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings. The HVAC Welder will work in various environments, such as construction sites, workshops, or industrial settings, ensuring that HVAC systems are built to specifications and meet all safety and quality standards.



Key Responsibilities:

1. Welding & Fabrication:

o Perform welding tasks using MIG, TIG, arc, or other welding techniques to join, fabricate, and repair metal components used in HVAC systems.

o Cut, shape, and assemble metal parts such as ducts, pipes, and frames according to design specifications.

o Weld metal sections accurately, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and integrity of HVAC components.



2. Blueprint & Specification Interpretation:

o Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project requirements.

o Follow specific welding symbols and guidelines to ensure proper welding techniques are applied.



3. HVAC System Installation Support:

o Assist in the installation of HVAC systems, including ducts, air conditioning units, furnaces, and other components requiring welding and fabrication.

o Ensure proper alignment and fit of welded parts during installation.



4. Safety & Quality Assurance:

o Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

o Conduct quality checks on completed welds to ensure they meet industry standards and are free from defects such as cracks or weak joints.

o Ensure compliance with building codes, HVAC standards, and welding procedures.



5. Maintenance & Repairs:

o Perform routine maintenance, repairs, or modifications on existing HVAC systems, including rewelding or fabricating new parts as needed.

o Troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues on HVAC systems, providing solutions to ensure efficient system operation.



6. Material Handling & Preparation:

o Prepare metals for welding by cleaning, cutting, grinding, and sanding surfaces.

o Select appropriate materials and tools for each job, ensuring they meet project specifications and welding requirements.

o Safely handle and store welding materials and gases, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.



7. Collaboration & Communication:

o Work closely with HVAC technicians, project managers, and other tradespeople to ensure project objectives are met.

o Communicate with supervisors regarding job progress, issues, or changes in project scope.



Qualifications:

1. Educational Requirements:

o High school diploma or equivalent.

o Welding certification from an accredited institution or trade school is required (e.g., AWS, ASME, or equivalent).



2. Experience:

o Minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a welder, preferably within the HVAC industry.

o Familiarity with HVAC systems and the welding requirements specific to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning components.

o Experience with different welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, stick, and oxy-acetylene welding.



3. Skills:

o Strong proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques, with the ability to perform precise and high-quality welds.

o Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.

o Knowledge of different metals and alloys used in HVAC systems, including proper preparation and welding methods.

o Familiarity with safety regulations, OSHA standards, and welding codes applicable to HVAC systems.

o Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.



4. Physical Requirements:

o Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and work in tight spaces.

o Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including outdoor construction sites and confined areas.

o Ability to use hand tools, welding equipment, and machinery safely and effectively.



Other Requirements:

· Ability to pass welding test on SCH- 40 carbon steel pipe using MIG (metal inert gas) technology

· Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different job sites as needed.

· Commitment to following safety procedures, including the use of PPE, proper ventilation, and fire prevention protocols.

· Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights or weekends, if project demands require.



Additional Skills (Preferred but not Required):

· Experience with HVAC ductwork installation and welding in commercial or industrial settings.

· Familiarity with HVAC codes, energy efficiency requirements, and environmental standards.

· Advanced certifications in welding processes such as pipe welding or certification for specific materials like stainless steel.
